Paige Northwood is an interdisciplinary Australian artist working across ceramic sculpture and painting. Her practice explores memory, emotion, and the sensory experience of the body, translating physical awareness into tactile forms. Deeply informed by her personal dedication to somatic mindfulness, movement, and bodily sensation, Northwood’s work functions as a ritualistic honouring of self-empowerment and the body’s innate intelligence.

Having worked in the arts for over a decade, including across art centres throughout Australia, Northwood’s practice has been shaped by sustained engagement with diverse materials, processes, artists, and creative communities. These experiences have deepened her understanding of making as both a physical and intuitive process, informing an approach grounded in experimentation, material exploration, and embodied knowledge.

Materiality is central to her practice, with clay serving as both medium and collaborator. Through an experimental and intuitive process, Northwood pushes the physical and expressive boundaries of clay, exploring its capacity to stretch, distort, fracture, compress, and transform. She is interested in the tension between control and unpredictability, allowing the inherent behaviours and resistance of the material to shape the work alongside her own physical gestures.

Through this dialogue between body and material, Northwood seeks to reclaim embodied knowledge and activate intrinsic intuitive abilities, grounding psychological inquiry within physical matter. Her works become sites where sensation, material, and memory intersect, inviting a deeper consideration of the body as both a source of knowledge and a vessel for transformation.
